Substrat is a work by Dove Allouche composed of 20 volumes bringing together 4,500 images of colonies of microorganisms taken from as many catalogue raisonné by artists belonging to the collections of the INHA -The National Institute of Art History- library. The work highlights the participation of living beings in cultural artefacts, the relationship between an artist and its parasites. The ensemble constitutes a work that is both monumental and discreet, testifying to the invisible forms of life that continuously develop in the architecture designed by Henri Labrouste and on the books that are kept there. It is deposited - and available for consultation - in the Jacques Doucet space in the Labrouste room.
