Phinthong’s conceptual practice translates elements of the real world into a poetic gesture, creating micro-situations with potential for human exchange. Phinthong used an artist fee to purchase 1,000 counterfeit Thaï baht notes from farmers, who were paid with fake bills to participate in recent political protests. This counterfeit currency is shared with Frieze visitors, showing the reverse chain of its circulation and exposing the value that politics places on people.
