Dissonances visuelles – Collection Contretype

From June 9 to August 27, 2023, Contretype will present the exhibition Dissonances visuelles, a selection of photographs from its collection. A priori, an art center or an exhibition space doesn’t have a collection. Building and maintaining a collection is rather the task of a museum. However, Contretype is an exception to the rule, and since its creation in 1978, it has been able to build up a collection that now numbers around 250 works. The aim of this exhibition is to bring to light a little-known legacy, a testimony to almost 50 years of history, and to place it at the heart of Contretype’s new work. Above all, it is to give an account of a project that has been at the service of artists for almost 50 years.
