Jouant d’un rapport complexe entre réalité et fiction, la démarche de Ryan Gander consiste à s’emparer d’éléments en apparence disparates (objets, images, situations, textes…) et de les assembler pour y inscrire ses propres systèmes de narration. Caractérisée par une rigueur conceptuelle, une simplicité visuelle et des textes allusifs, les oeuvres de Ryan Gander interrogent les processus d’apparition et les mécanismes de perception de l’oeuvre d’art. Installations, photographies, performances, publications ou encarts dans la presse lui servent à élaborer une réflexion sur le potentiel discursif de l’art et sur ses systèmes de transmission. Sa pratique, qui mobilise abondamment le langage et s’articule autour de multiples collaborations, entend “rendre l’invisible visible” et fournir la “possibilité, les conditions pour que des choses adviennent”.
