Roman Ondak

Roman Ondak est né en 1966 à Zilina, il vit et travaille à Bratislava.

Les interventions artistiques de Roman Ondak brouillent les frontières entre l’art et le quotidien, remettant en question les hiérarchies traditionnelles entre artistes et non-artistes, entre l’œuvre d’art et le spectateur et entre les domaines public et privé. En présentant des éléments de la vie quotidienne dans un contexte artistique, de nouvelles perspectives sur les relations sociales et l’expérience humaine apparaissent. La pratique de l’art relationnel d’Ondak rompt avec l’idée traditionnelle de l’objet d’art - l’environnement social construit devient l’art. Choisissant l’immersion plutôt que la représentation, il invite les spectateurs, amis et famille, à jouer un rôle essentiel dans son travail, en faisant appel à leur propre créativité dans le processus de suivi de ses instructions. Le résultat est une étude contrôlée de la découverte et de l’imagination collectives.

Prenant des formes variées, de l’installation à la photographie en passant par le dessin et la performance, le travail d’Ondak fait des interventions subtiles dans les structures sociales et culturelles et franchit les frontières entre l’art et la vie quotidienne, le privé et le public, le personnel et l’institutionnel. Pour Loop, 2009, conçu pour le pavillon tchèque et slovaque de la Biennale de Venise 2009, Ondak a prolongé les jardins à l’extérieur à travers le pavillon lui-même, jouant avec l’expérience du spectateur de l’intérieur et de l’extérieur, de la réalité et de l’espace d’exposition. Dans Measuring the Universe, 2007, les visiteurs de la galerie ont marqué la hauteur des spectateurs, leurs prénoms et la date de la mesure sur les murs de la galerie, de sorte qu’avec le temps, la galerie a progressivement accumulé les traces de milliers de visiteurs.
