Deimantas Narkevičius, Untitled, 1998
B&W production photograph taken during his film ‘His-Story’
30 x 44,5 cm, framed 33 x 47,5 cm
Edition 8 (+ 4 A.P.)
The artist has taken this photo during filming process of ‘His-story’, 1998. ‘His-story’ is composed of two films made using authentic Russian film making equipment from 60’s. In the film artist and some people very close to him are telling the story of his deceased parents. In the film all are about the same age like his parents were in the sixties when was the boom of Soviet realistic movies. The difference is that such a political story could not be produced at that time. This photo is based on the traditional moment in Lithuania, the groom has to carry the bride in his arm accross a bridge. The young couple who did quite many repetitions of the ritual got tired and Narkevicius took this portrait without faces, as it would be a wedding by anyone in the 60’s or 70’s.
