Cutout Barrel Shaped Cactus With Flower (Oct. 30, 1940), 2014
Heat transfer print on polyester, mounted on aluminum frame
120 x 152 x 3 cm
Edition 1 (+ 1 A.P.)
This archive photo which was cut out with gouache paint before being published in an American newspaper on the 30th of October 1940 has been enlarged at the size of a painting. The brush strokes and graphical inscriptions done by the anonymous photoengraver in order to extract the photographed subject from its context, gives to this picture a fortuitous pictorial aspect. The photographed cactus, aged of four years old, was belonging to the collection of Mr John Sheldon, then living in the periphery of Baltimore.
